My family LOVES to travel - especially if there is a beach involved! HOWEVER as we all know vacations can get expensive especially when we are traveling with our children. Over the years I have gone from staying in the roadside inns to the nicest hotels and amazingly enough didn't go up too much in price. How did I do it you ask? Well, there is planning and a little risk taking but oh man is it worth it!
One of the greatest tools we have today is Priceline. When I tell people this they are often very afraid of priceline but I am here to testify of it's amazingness! Since becoming a priceline disciple I have NEVER had a bad experience and we have stayed in some fabulous hotels because of it. As a matter of fact I now call my kids the hotel snobs! Every year we go to Disneyland I ALWAYS priceline our room. I have paid anywhere between $54 and $63 per night over the years. The past 3 times we had won the Hyatt which my kids love- hotel is great and the beds are the best! Last year we happened to win the Hilton.... hmmm. grumpy kids weren't too happy they were playing the hotel snobs and complaining about missing their awesome beds at the Hyatt... oh well. Here are just a few tips for using the place your own bid option
1. find out how much your hotel room would normally go for and start bidding 60% less
2. make sure to bid the highest star available and NEVER go below a 3 star hotel( this depends what state you are staying in- for example in New York you would never go below a 4 star)
3. the closer you bid to your arrival date the better deal you will get
4. check out the website www.biddingfortravel.com it will give you an idea of what other hotels other people are winning and for how much
This will get you started! Please email me at wendisfrugalfamily@hotmail.com with questions
